3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Emergency Overview: Clear viscous liquid may be irritating to mucous membranes, skin and eyes. Flammable material.
Potential Health Effects: High vapor concentrations are irritating to nose, throat, lungs, skin and eyes.
Eye Contact: Irritating to eyes. Symptoms may include stinging, tearing, redness and swelling.
Skin Contact: May cause mild irritation. Prolonged or repeated exposure may dry the skin. Symptoms include redness, burning, drying and cracking of skin. Skin absorption is possible, but harmful effects are not expected from this route of exposure under normal use conditions.
Ingestion: DO NOT INGEST. Single dose oral toxicity is low. Swallowing small amount during normal handling is not likely to cause harmful effects; swallowing large amounts may be harmful.
Chronic: Butyl Acetate has been shown to cause harm to the fetus in laboratory animal studies. Harm to the fetus occurs only at exposure levels that harm the pregnant animal. The relevance of these findings to humans is uncertain. This material is not listed as a carcinogen by IARC, NTP or OSHA.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation: If symptoms develop, move individual away from exposure and into fresh air. Seek immediate medical attention; keep person warm and quiet. If person is not breathing, begin artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen.
Eye Contact: Flush eyes gently with water for at least 15 minutes while holding eyelids apart. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed area with soap and water. Sticky residues may be removed with rubbing alcohol. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Give individual two glasses of milk or water to drink. If symptoms develop, seek medical attention.
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flash Point: 74°C (165°F) Cleveland Open Cup
General Hazard: Uniplex 670-P is a combustible liquid.
Fire Fighting Instructions: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Water may not be effective in fighting fires; however, it may be used to cool drums involved in fire. Use alcohol foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide to extinguish burning material.
Hazardous Combustion Products: May form toxic materials; carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Land Spill: Small spill-absorb liquid on vermiculite or other absorbent material.
Large spill-eliminate all ignition sources. Exclude all persons not wearing protective equipment from area of spill. Prevent from entering drains, sewers, streams or other bodies of water. If runoff occurs, notify authorities as required. Pump or transfer spilled product to containers for recovery or disposal. Absorb unrecovered product and transfer contaminated absorbent, soil and other materials to containers for disposal. Dispose of in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations. Incineration is the preferred method of disposal.
Water Spill: Butyl Acetate has a high biological oxygen demand (BOD20 1.45g/g) and is expected to cause significant depletion in aquatic systems. It has a low potential to affect aquatic organisms. It is readily biodegradable and is not likely to bioconcentrate. Collect and place in containers as much of the spilled material as possible for later disposal.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

General: Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Keep container closed when not in use. Use with adequate ventilation. Since emptied containers contain product residue, follow label warnings after container is emptied.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROL/PERSONAL PROTECTION
Engineering Controls: Use local exhaust to maintain butyl acetate vapors below PEL limits. Exercise good chemical handling practice.
Personal Protection: Wear splash-proof goggles and rubber or vinyl gloves.
Respirator: A self-contained breathing apparatus or OSHA approved organic vapor mask is recommended if handling material in areas with concentrations above the PEL.
Protective Clothing: Not normally required.
